Rules and Procedures

As detailed in the Dependency Court Hybrid Procedures above, a virtual appearance is permitted only with video and sound. If a person is appearing via Zoom, it is that person’s responsibility to ensure they have the connection link and that their device is set up for audio and video. The court will not provide technical support. If for some reason a person has technical difficulties, the hearing will continue without their participation. No person may operate a motor vehicle while attending a hearing. No person appearing virtually may allow another person to be present and off camera without approval of the court. These rules and procedures for virtual appearances for GM hearings are subject to cancellation if the process is abused or the rules are not being followed.

If an attorney cannot appear in person, they may appear virtually, provided they notify their client in advance. The attorney shall provide the parent with the Zoom information.

If a parent cannot appear in person, they may appear virtually, provided they notify their attorney in advance. The attorney shall provide the parent with the Zoom information.

If an assigned case manager or case manager’s supervisor cannot appear in person, they may appear virtually, provided they notify their attorney in advance.

If a GAL volunteer or case advocate manager cannot appear in person, they may appear virtually.

If a caregiver or child/youth cannot appear in person, they may appear virtually.
