About Adult Drug Treatment Court

Welcome to the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit’s Adult Drug Treatment Court (ADTC). ADTC follows a non-adversarial, evidence-based approach to treatment for participants charged with crimes who struggle with a substance use disorder or co-occurring mental health and substance use disorder. ADTC addresses not only the problems leading to a participant’s entry into the criminal justice system, but also the barriers impeding their treatment and recovery. The defining feature of ADTC is the highly individualized nature of treatment and supervision plans for each participant, which are created by evidenced-based assessments, judicial supervision, and personal accountability. The mission of ADTC is to work collaboratively in developing therapeutic treatment plans tailored to meet the participant’s individual needs with the goal of providing stability, wellness, and long-term care.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible to participate in the ADTC program?

In accordance with the laws of Florida, any person over the age of 18, who is charged with a non-violent offense, who scores a total of 60 points or fewer sentencing points on the Criminal Punishment Code Scoresheet, has a substance use disorder, and is amenable to treatment.

How long is the ADTC program?

The length of the ADTC program depends on the track to which the participant is assigned. The shortest track, Track 4, is designed for individuals assessed as low risk and low need and can be completed in approximately six months. However, the longest track, Track 1, has a structured duration of 14 months. Participants in any track may require additional time if they experience periods of non-compliance.

What do you do in treatment?

Treatment includes group and individual counseling, urine screening, support group participation, and medication management for mental health and substance use disorders. The frequency of services is based on each participant’s needs, but the level of treatment gradually decreases as the participant demonstrates progress.

Is the ADTC program successful?

Yes, the ADTC program is highly effective in helping participants address substance use disorders, reducing recidivism, and supporting participants in becoming productive members of the community.

Can I use medical marijuana while in the ADTC program?

No, the use of medical marijuana or any derivative of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in any form is not permitted while participating in the ADTC program.
