IMMEDIATE RELEASE CHIEF JUDGE MENENDEZ SWORN-IN AS CHAIR OF THE
FLORIDA CONFERENCE OF CIRCUIT JUDGES

and Chair-Elect of the conference over the past two years. The membership of the Conference consists of all the active and retired Circuit Court Judges in the State of Florida. Currently there are 564 active circuit judges in Florida. New judgeships created by the legislature this session will increase the number of active circuit judges to 599 in January, 2007.
The Florida Conference of Circuit Judges annually elects a chair, whose duties include calling all meetings and appointing committees to effectuate the purposes of the conference. Among the conference's responsibilities is to consider and make recommendations concerning the betterment of the judicial system, the improvement of rules and methods of procedure and practice in the courts, and to report to the Supreme Court such findings and recommendations as the conference may have.
As chair of the conference, Judge Menendez, will also be responsible for reporting to the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House any recommendations the conference may have concerning defects in the laws and such amendments or additional legislation as the conference may deem necessary.
