CIVIL TRAFFIC CASES AT FLORILAND BUSINESS CENTER CANCELLED DUE TO POTENTIAL ENVIRONMENTAL AND HEALTH PROBLEM

TAMPA - - Court Administrator Mike Bridenback announced today that all civil traffic and other cases at Floriland Business Center scheduled for the week of September 10-14 have been cancelled.

Court officials became aware of a potential environmental and health problem with the location where traffic court is held at the Floriland Business Center. As a result of air conditioning breakdowns, coupled with leaks in the roof, mold began to appear in the offices of the Hearing Officer and in the courtroom. Bridenback related that he had asked the county to evaluate the situation and has been notified today that indeed there is a health risk from the mold. In light of this situation, Chief Judge Menendez decided to cancel all dockets at the Floriland location next week.

Hillsborough County officials are already developing a remediation plan that consists of replacing the air conditioning, repairing the roof and sanitizing the area where the mold is growing. It anticipated that this remediation project will take a minimum of four weeks to complete. He is hopeful that traffic dockets will resume within the next week at an alternative location. Bridenback related that he has been assured that when the project is successfully completed that court may resume in this location.

Please note that traffic cases scheduled at the George Edgecomb Courthouse or Plant City Courthouse will proceed as scheduled.
