All revenues and expenditures are evaluated by staff in Fiscal Affairs to assure that court programs have the necessary resources to meet their objectives. The major functions of this program include:

  • Budgeting
  • Purchasing
  • Accounts payable
  • Fiscal monitoring
  • Special projects evaluation
  • Revenue analysis.

Staff also provides oversight of contracts with agencies that provide court reporting services, conflict attorneys, domestic violence treatment and psychological and psychiatric evaluations for defendants.

The courts have traditionally received funding from diversified sources, including revenue from the State of Florida and Hillsborough County. State revenue accounted for more than 40% of funding for the circuit and county courts, while the county provided 23% of the allocated funds in 2000. Although Trust Funds and grant revenue represent only 20% of the budget, this category of funding has continued to increase each fiscal year with the rise in Fine & Forfeiture income.
